All the roads have come to an end...

I have compiled all the work, placed it onto a disc and into the pigeon hole . For the cover of the disc I found that if I cropped down the front of my publication, it actually made a great and very appropriate image to use. I even felt that the text that fitted into the cropped version was very fitting to my initial impression of the subject. It was all a little daunting in the very beginning and for some students such as myself, this really was a journey into the unknown. However, I am extremely pleased with all that I have achieved throughout this semester, the skills I have gained have already been a huge benefit to me as I have been able to use them in the school where I am currently on placement.
Thanks for all your help Stuart!

Almost there...

It has taken a while but my webpage is finally took shape this week and all that’s left to do now is cross the t’s and dot the i’s. Like most other programs I have worked with this year on the Mac, I found that once you spend a little time exploring and trailing different things everything begins to fall into place. Working out how to properly insert the photos was the biggest challenge and I must admit it was more than a little frustrating, however it was ultimately achieved and definitely worth the effort. I will now gather my resume and publication and place them all on a disc along with my website and I am almost done. I still have to design a cover for the case which I will make time to do during the week, I am thinking I will use an image that I originally intended to use for my publication but couldn’t because when cropped it was far too small.
I will let you know how it all goes.

Mission accomplished and ready to proceed to next assignment…

I have finally completed my digital publication and I am delighted with the result. In design is defiantly a program that could drive a perfectionist crazy. Not that I am obsessed with every minor detail but I did find myself believing I was finished until I spotted a detail, no matter how small, that could be improved or altered somehow. For the sake of good work this is a great problem to have, it seems that with the assistance of other programs such as Photoshop and Corel Painter the boundaries of what can be achieved on a Mac are almost limitless.

Over the past week I have also taken photos of my artwork that I will now include in my website. I am still somewhat confused about the size of images but hopefully that will begin to make more sense as I explore the program further by actively working the images into the website.

Over the next week I will begin to do that and also type up the information/text that will feature on the webpage.

Back On Track

The lesson before the mid semester break we were introduced to the program ‘Dreamweaver’. I must admit it was a little difficult to get my head around and most of what I was taught was lost during the two weeks away. Last week however we did a revision task which required us to create a cooking website with colour, links and pictures and this time round everything seemed to make much more sense. As a class we were provided with clear instructions as we progressed through each step, the class moved at a steady pace which gave me time to take useful notes and experiment with various tools in the program.
It has been a while since my last written entry to the blog and I have yet to complete my publication. Instead of making a Horror film poster I decided to wait until I obtained a few photographs from the short film I mentioned that I was making in an earlier entry to my blog and stick to my original idea. Now that I have the idea and photos I needed I will spent today’s class working on this task and perhaps fit in a little more practice using Dreamweaver. Time to get busy!

week 4

This week I have been looking at various posters paying particular attention to design and how the font is featured. What particularly interested me was a type of poster called Chirashi which is printed in Japan. The posters are typically a reduced image (255mm by 180mm) of the standard promotional film posters and feature promotional photos and a synopsis of the film on the reverse side. Creating my poster this way will not only allow me to design a poster as I originally intended but I will also be able to use font as an aesthetic feature more than if I was to produce a standard cinema poster. At the moment I have two images that I could potentially use on the front, however one is an image I made using Corel painter and it does not exactly fit with the idea of using the subject matter of the short film I am making. However I am quite satisfied with appearence the image and feel that it would make an excellent poster for a horror film and I may still choose to incorporate this into this project. I have several ideas of what the layout of the reverse side will look like however it also depends largely on the images I include, at the moment I will work on getting these done and then I will work on merging the images and text together using InDesign.

week 3

Now that I have completed a resume using In-design I feel quite confident operating the program and will continue to create such documents using A Mac in the future. I feel that I have a good basic knowledge that will allow me to commence work on the publication task so I will now begin to work on designing a layout on paper which will later be transferred to a digital format. As I mentioned in my last post I have chosen to design a film poster however I feel that this idea may be slightly modified throughout its development. I am currently enrolled in the class ‘Introduction to digital art’ and as part of an assessment task I have chosen to create a short film. I thought that it would be a great idea to tie the two projects together and make my poster/program based on the idea for my film. I am still in the planning stages for the film and the digital publication will be due earlier than its completion but I intend to use the title and the overall theme of the film as inspiration for this publication. I aim to have these details finalised soon and will inform you in my next blog.

week 2

Today we were commenced work of our first task which is due week 4. Using In Design we were asked to create a resume using 1 font, 1 colour and 1 page. Before we began Stuart provided us with the basic instructions we needed to get started and then presented us with this task, we were encouraged to make the resume as aesthetically pleasing as possible. The exercise enabled us to explore the program ourselves which I felt was a great way to learn as it allowed us to develop confidence operating the program far more rapidly compared to if we were provided with strict instructions.
Last week I mentioned that I would invest some thought into what kind of publication I will create using InDesign. After some thought I became enthusiastic about the notion of creating a film program or a movie poster, however I did have some concerns that the publication may need to feature more text than a typical film poster does. I consulted Stuart this week and he approved the film poster so I am now leaning more towards this idea.
This week I plan to complete the CV and decide on a theme of the film that the poster will be promoting.

week 1

Today was our introduction to the class ‘The Digital Publication’. This appears to be a subject that interests me but also challenges me as we will be working with several programs that I am somewhat unfamiliar with. In today’s class we discussed the curriculum and also talked about technology, the internet and the significance they have in the world today. In the past I have always had an appreciation for what can be achieved in art with technology however have been hesitant to use it in my own work due to my inability to use the software. It is for this reason that I am now keen to begin work on our assessment tasks and particularly look forward to creating a digital publication. I intend to brainstorm a few ideas for this project during the week.
