week 4
This week I have been looking at various posters paying particular attention to design and how the font is featured. What particularly interested me was a type of poster called Chirashi which is printed in Japan. The posters are typically a reduced image (255mm by 180mm) of the standard promotional film posters and feature promotional photos and a synopsis of the film on the reverse side. Creating my poster this way will not only allow me to design a poster as I originally intended but I will also be able to use font as an aesthetic feature more than if I was to produce a standard cinema poster. At the moment I have two images that I could potentially use on the front, however one is an image I made using Corel painter and it does not exactly fit with the idea of using the subject matter of the short film I am making. However I am quite satisfied with appearence the image and feel that it would make an excellent poster for a horror film and I may still choose to incorporate this into this project. I have several ideas of what the layout of the reverse side will look like however it also depends largely on the images I include, at the moment I will work on getting these done and then I will work on merging the images and text together using InDesign.

week 3
Now that I have completed a resume using In-design I feel quite confident operating the program and will continue to create such documents using A Mac in the future. I feel that I have a good basic knowledge that will allow me to commence work on the publication task so I will now begin to work on designing a layout on paper which will later be transferred to a digital format. As I mentioned in my last post I have chosen to design a film poster however I feel that this idea may be slightly modified throughout its development. I am currently enrolled in the class ‘Introduction to digital art’ and as part of an assessment task I have chosen to create a short film. I thought that it would be a great idea to tie the two projects together and make my poster/program based on the idea for my film. I am still in the planning stages for the film and the digital publication will be due earlier than its completion but I intend to use the title and the overall theme of the film as inspiration for this publication. I aim to have these details finalised soon and will inform you in my next blog.

week 2
Today we were commenced work of our first task which is due week 4. Using In Design we were asked to create a resume using 1 font, 1 colour and 1 page. Before we began Stuart provided us with the basic instructions we needed to get started and then presented us with this task, we were encouraged to make the resume as aesthetically pleasing as possible. The exercise enabled us to explore the program ourselves which I felt was a great way to learn as it allowed us to develop confidence operating the program far more rapidly compared to if we were provided with strict instructions.
Last week I mentioned that I would invest some thought into what kind of publication I will create using InDesign. After some thought I became enthusiastic about the notion of creating a film program or a movie poster, however I did have some concerns that the publication may need to feature more text than a typical film poster does. I consulted Stuart this week and he approved the film poster so I am now leaning more towards this idea.
This week I plan to complete the CV and decide on a theme of the film that the poster will be promoting.
